Blade of Dimensional Fire (MP02-008) , Academy Guard of Lykeion (EDL-039)

Question: If I control Blade of Dimensional Fire and Academy Guard of Lykeion, if my opponent plays a resonator spell and the automatic ability <Severing Flame> targets it and resolves, what will happen?

Answer: As rule 104.2. says, when a mandatory effect instructs you to do something, and part of it is impossible to do, you do any part of the effect that you can legally do. So, if there are no effects that would stop you from removing target spell from the game, you remove the chosen target from the game. The next part of the effect (playing the card from the removed area) is impossible to do because of the effect of Academy Guard of Lykeion, so it is not performed at all. So, the chosen target will be put into its owner’s removed area and will remain in there.

Blade of Dimensional Fire (MP02-008 SRR) , Space-Time Pursuer, Gill Lapis (BFA-080*)

Question: If I control the sub-ruler Blade of Dimensional Fire, can I play Space-Time Pursuer, Gill Lapis by paying only its specified cost?

Answer: As Space-Time Pursuer, Gill Lapis is a fire Wanderer spell, yes, you do. Actually, you must do, because that ability of Blade of Dimensional Fire is a base ability directly modifying the printed cost of fire Wanderer spells and darkness Wanderer spells. So e.g. Muse’s Staring at… could not stop it from resolving, as you are paying the “non-reduced cost modified by its base ability” of Space-Time Pursuer, Gill Lapis.

You would still have to pay three will to play Interdimensional Monarch, Gill Lapis, because it is a darkness Monarch spell, not a darkness Wanderer spell.

Healing Wing Dragon Rider (MP02-049)

Question: If I resolve the [Enter] ability of this card, but there is a replacement effect that replaces the zone movement with “remove it from the game face down instead”, will the rest of the [Enter] effect will be applied to the chosen target?

Answer: No. As the [Enter] effect has “If you do” in its text, if a replacement effect replaces the zone movement, the rest of the [Enter] effect will not be applied to the chosen target.

Ryula, Princess of a New Generation (MP02-059)

Question: If one of my rulers with “Millium” in its name has become Astral, and I swap it with another ruler with “Millium” in its name that I own from outside the game, and then I swap it back, will the former ruler still be considered an Astral ruler?

Answer: No. A ruler that leaves the ruler area and its put outside the game, and later, is put from outside the game in the ruler area, is considered a new ruler card (even if is the same physical card), and isn’t considered an Astral ruler.

Mars, Fortuneteller of the Fire Star (MP02-088)

Question: Can I use the will produced with the ability of Mars, Fortuneteller of the Fire Star to pay the [Awakening] cost of an Ancient Magic spell?

Answer: [Awakening] is as an additional cost to play a card, so yes, you can use the will produced with the ability of Mars, Fortuneteller of the Fire Star to pay the [Awakening] cost of Ancient Magic spells.

Hairpin of the Beastmaster (MP02-105)

Question: If I control the regalia Hairpin of the Beastmaster, and I perform the [Judgment] process of Pricia, True Beastmaster, and after resolving both [Fate] trigger and the judgment process, I play the God’s Art ability of the sub-ruler Hairpin of the Beastmaster, will my J-rulers gain [Swiftness] and [Pierce]?

Answer: As for your J-rulers to gain [Swiftness] and [Pierce] you must play a judgment process after gaining the ability “If you play a judgment process this turn, J-rulers you control gain [Swiftness] and [Pierce] until end of turn.”, unless you perform another judgment process, no, your J-rulers will not gain [Swiftness] and [Pierce] this way.

To gain [Swiftness] and [Pierce] in this situation, that ability should say “If you played a judgment process this turn, J-rulers you control gain [Swiftness] and [Pierce] until end of turn.”.

Gill Lapis, Rebel of Darkest Fires (MP02-111 JR)

Question: The cost for playing this card’s ability is “Put a non-magic stone card from your opponent's removed area on the bottom of their deck.” Can I pay costs with resources that I don’t control?

Answer: Normally you can pay costs only with resources you control, not resources your opponent controls. But this card specifies that you can do so. And, as rule 104.1 says, If the comprehensive rules and text of a card are contradictory, the card text takes precedence. So, yes, in this situation, you can.

Empty Vessel of Worlds (MP02-113)

Question: If my opponent controls Giotto Sansta, Conqueror of Protopaterpolis and Gill Lapis, Rebel of Darkest Fires, and targets with Gill Lapis, Rebel of Darkest Fires [X]’s ability a face-up card in my removed area, and I chase that ability with the ability of Empty Vessel of Worlds, turning that card face-down, can my opponent play it if they turn it face up again? Please, remember that Giotto Sansta allows they to look at face-down cards in each player's removed area at any time.

Answer: Yes, they can. The card flipped face down didn’t become a different card when it was flipped face-down. So, even if you flip it face down, the ability won’t fail, as it will be the same target card, as long as the card is face up again when the ability of Gill Lapis resolves.

Question: Can I flip face-down a card I don’t own from outside the game face down, if it was expelled?

Answer: Flipping a card from outside the game face down is not a zone movement, so, yes, you can.

Question: If both players control an Empty Vessel of Worlds, what will happen if they both target with the “Flip target card in any player’s removed area face down or face up”? Is it an endless loop?

Answer: That is a loop that both players can stop, so, is an unforced loop, which means that no player is forced to play the activate ability of their Empty Vessel of Worlds. According to rule 1301.1b, the turn player picks a number of times the loop will be “virtually” performed, then the non-turn player picks a number. The lower number of these two numbers determines how many times the loop will be performed for the purpose of effects (like automatic abilities that trigger by a part of this loop) or effects that are part of the loop itself. As this loop doesn’t affect anything else, the loop happens as follows:

1) Player A plays and resolves the activate ability of Empty Vessel of Worlds, flipping the target face up or face down, depending on the orientation of the card at that time.

2) Player B plays and resolves the activate ability of Empty Vessel of Worlds, flipping the target again to the previous orientation.

3) Player A must choose to do something different than play the activate ability of Empty Vessel of Worlds.

Yggdrasil, Malefic Verdant Tree , Alice, Possessed Queen of Shadows , Dying Soul of the Malefic Tree (MP02-140, MP02-141, MP02-142)

Question: If I control Yggdrasil, Malefic Verdant Tree and Alice, Possessed Queen of Shadows, and my opponent attacks with resonator “A”, resonator “B” and resonator “C”, and all of them are [100/100], and my opponent attacks me in order (“A”, then “B”, then “C”), and none of them are blocked, which of the following is correct?

The damage that will be prevented will be:

-          Damage dealt by resonators "A" and "B".

-          As the damage of resonator “A” has been prevented, the first damage hasn’t been dealt and, therefore, the damage that will be prevented will be that of resonators "A" and "C".

Answer: The replacement effect of these three cards will only count the potential original actions, not the actual actions. So, if you have a replacement effect that replaces first damage and this second damage deal to you, the first and second packages of damage dealt to you will be prevented, and the answer is: damage dealt by resonators "A" and "B".

Ten Oaths of Protopaterpolis' War (MP02-152)

Question: If I control two entities named “Ten Oaths of Protopaterpolis' War”, as I have to treat them as two entities with [Mythic], should I banish one of them due the [Mythic] trigger?

Answer: No. Because “Ten Oaths of Protopaterpolis’ War” says “treat this card as”, it doesn’t grant the keyword ability [Mythic] to itself, and as [Mythic]’s trigger condition is “If you control two or more entities with [Mythic] that share a name”, [Mythic] will not trigger in this situation.

Moonless Night's Crossing Point (TEU-094)  , Pathetic Demise (CST-084)

Question: If I control Moonless Night's Crossing Point, can I play its God’s Art ability targeting Pathetic Demise?

Answer: Yes, you can, but nothing will happen. To put a copy of a chant on the chase, as well as “If targets are needed, that card’s controller chooses legal ones”, the card is also considered “a card played without paying its cost” for effects and abilities that interact with cards that have been played without paying their cost, and, so, it needs to fulfil all requirements needed to be played, such as “Play this card only if you control a J/ruler named “Sieben, Malefic $t@r”. So, the copy will be made, but as you won’t be able to play it, it will move to the graveyard, and as a copy leaving the field, it ceases to exist. The rule 1017.4 has been updated to explain this situation.
